Biographical / Historical

The Business Research Bureau was organized January 1, 1937. The original purpose of the Business Research Bureau (BRB) was “to gather information relating to business practice and business conditions, and to disseminate such information to business men in South Dakota by means of a monthly Bulletin.” The BRB progressed into a more complex organization which expanded into areas outside of business, some of which include hospitals, tourism, and education, but primarily limited itself to the state of South Dakota. In addition, the BRB began collaborating with different interest groups, such as the South Dakota Department of Transportation, the South Dakota Department of Labor, the City of Vermillion, and the Yankton chamber of Commerce in order to determine how various entities affected South Dakota and the surrounding region.

The BRB was disbanded in April of 2009 because of budget cuts.
